A Change of Allegiance edition by Dean Taylor Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
I really enjoyed this book. The author does a masterful job of providing an in-depth analysis of the Christian's response to war, patriotic duty, and governmental affairs. Dean Taylor addresses these complex matters while using his own personal testimony as the thread by which he weaves his profound arguments in defense of Christian pacifism. The book is saturated with biblical support and is penned with a tone of humility and grace.
A couple who served proudly in the Army began reading scriptures in the Bible together. They began to take Jesus' teachings seriously and questioned where their loyalties were and if it was right to be in the military while proclaiming Christ. They tell of the search they went on, questions they asked, questions others asked while their hearts changed, and ultimately what their journey into conscientious objectors came to. Well done!
This book is a very honest look at a man who takes the Bible as the word of God and seeks to put it into practice. I really like how this was written and that he shares the bible verses that made him become a non-violent, non-resistant Kingdom Christian. I am convinced that you are right about these verses and how Christians aught to respond to these commands. I have been recommending the book to many people and buying copies for my friends and family.
My whole family enjoys this book, adults and young readers alike.
It is the true story of a man and his wife, who were in the U.S. Army, when they faced the question "What if Jesus really meant every word He said?"
It answers the question "What does it mean to love our enemies?"
I was not raised in any religion, and became a Christian as an adult. I was surprised and saddened when I started visiting churches and saw how much the words of Jesus were completely disregarded. This book was like a breath of fresh air, showing that there are people out there who truly follow the simple words of Jesus, no matter what the cost.
Some time after reading this book, my family was able to meet this author and his family. He is a very sincere believer, as well as a wonderful speaker, which only made us appreciate the book more. Here is a link to his website www.radicalreformation.com
I would recommend this book for any Christian who is looking for a deeper walk, and for anyone who is wondering about following the simple words of Jesus.
May God bless you as you read!
This is a very good book of where our allegiance is today. Very well written by one who has had personal experience in these things.
It's self examination time for the Christian. This is a good book. No, it's not about self examination; but it causes you to re-examine the depth of your commitment to the Lord, and to Hia kingdom (and that's ALWAYS good!). I recommend it.
Dean Taylor's story of his and his wife's struggle as soldiers to find the answer to Christ's command to "Love your enemies" is an exceptionally well written account of their personal journey. Accompanying the fascinating narrative, Taylor weaves in expertly documented research he discovered in his search to follow God, no matter the cost. A reader can not help but be fascinated, inspired and challenged.
This book will challenge your ideas on patriotism, the Kingdom of God, and what it really means to follow Jesus.
