Harvey is a child mime. Every day he goes to the docks to perform for the crowds. On this particular day, during this particular act, he must have been performing the very best invisible box he ever had, because two workers at the dock mistook his box for one of their own and loaded him on to a cargo ship! Harvey the Child Mime follows Harvey's adventure as his invisible box is shipped overseas. He makes friends, teaches life lessons, and even becomes a jelly fish along the way!

This book is totally charming. I teach kindergarten through second grade and all of the children love this book. They are totally enthralled with the whimsical illustrations as they are taken on a truly unique and hilarious adventure with Harvey the Child Mime. This character teaches them many lessons about happiness and having fun. I always start the lesson with an explanation about miming. They then take turns performing a mime and everyone has to guess what they are trying to express. It is so much fun. After I read the book, depending on the age group, there are many topics to discuss - gratitude, having fun without needing to accumulate a lot of "things," and how to use your imagination. I highly recommend this book to teachers and school social workers too. Because Harvey is so different, I think many special needs children would fall in love with Harvey as well. This is very much a modern day fairytale with a special message for all.Harvey the Child MimeProduct details

Harvey shows those of us who may have forgotten, just how powerful the imagination can be. A long journey for Harvey the Mime ends in a valuable lesson learned for the never-satisfied Princess Mindy... less is more. Infact, nothing at all can be anything at all with a vivid imagintion. An absolutely magical first endeavor from Emmy award winning author, Loryn Brantz. Can't wait to see what she'll do next!
Harvey the Child Mime belongs with the classics of children's picture books.
The journey of the imagination Harvey takes, (reminiscent of Harold and the Purple Crayon) is as satisfying story-wise as it is stunningly elegant visually. A young reader or the adult who may be reading to them will want to re-read this many times, and enjoy how Harvey turns Princess Mindy, who initially wanted "a present, not a boy," into a friend and a fan.
This is one to purchase and keep. I'll be revisiting it again and again.
We recently bought this book to read with our daughter and were delighted by the creative story and whimsical illustrations! We were so pleased that we've purchased additional copies to give as gifts. Highly recommend this inspiring story for children of all ages!
An acquaintance at my local yoga studio turned me on to this title, and I am so glad she did! If you value imagination in children, this is a great addition to your family library, not only for the message it sends loud and clear (ironically, of course, since it's about a mime!!!) but for the quality of the illustrations alone. BEAUTIFULLY drawn pages come to life. It has the creativity and social relevance of Dr. Seuss, with the soft wisdom of Leo Lionni, and the narrative ambition of Kevin Henkes. The best part? After reading it to my daughters, they spent the next hour pretending to be mimes!
This book is a rare treat for children and adults as well. The illustrations are modern with a classic, timeless touch. The story is a very sweet tale about a little boy mime who travels in a most unexpected way and finds himself in a castle with a spoiled princess who has no clue about how to be happy. Harvey joyfully shows her how to find happiness and how to make life fun without saying one word. It's colorful, hilarious and a wonderful way to teach children what happiness is and what it isn't.Harvey the Child Mime
"Harvey the Child Mime" is absolutely magical! Loryn Brantz complements her engaging characters with enchanting illustrations. I purchased it for a young man, who loves to pretend. What a treat for him to enter Harvey's world, where the make believe brings happiness and perspective to a troubled girl. He hasn't stopped practicing his boxes.
When I read it to my writing class as an inspiration for their own stories, the improvement in the students' creativity was electrifying. It was as if someone had finally given them permission to have fun! The seventh and eighth-graders told their friends, and the next class begged for a chance to hear it also, then went on to create their own imaginary characters and scenes.
We can't wait to see where Harvey goes next! No wonder can't keep it in stock!
Harvey the Child Mime is an adorable and original story with a great message for children. A talented young mime, Harvey performs at the docks every day. Harvey is pretending to be in a box when two dock workers mistake him for a real box, and he goes on an adventure overseas. The lessons he learns along the way are presented in an entertaining and fun way that children are sure to relate to. The endearing and whimsical illustrations--done by the author--are a highlight of the book. The illustrations bring this tale to life and perfectly complement the story. Author and illustrator Loryn Brantz has created a true gem with Harvey the Child Mime. I hope to see a sequel!
